Trip to Sheffield

Hei taas, onkin mennyt jo hetki siitä kun vimeksi postasin mitään muta saatte kuulla mun Sheffieldin matkastani! Tämä kyseinen reissu tapahtuu samassa hengessaä kun aiempi postini Firenzestä, ja se minkä lupasin tehdä Suomen projektista. No se tulee vähän myöhemmin nyt sitten mutta ei se mitään xP

Hello again, it's been a while since I last posted anything but now you get to hear about my trip to Sheffield! This particular trip is happening for the same reason than my trip to Florence that I posted of earlier and the post on the project in Finland that I promised to do. Well I'll make the Finnish one later, but that's OK xP

Elikkäs meidän koulullamme TKTO:lla oli semmoinen projekti kuin Erasmus 4E's project, missä mukana meillä oli Italian Firenzessä Liceo Artistico di Porta Romana ja Englannin Sheffieldissä Hillsborough's College of Fine Arts. Projektissa oli tarkoitus lähettää yksi ryhmä kahdesta koulusta kolmanteen ja viettää paikan päällä viikko suunnitellen ja toteuttaen jonkinnäköinen tuote. 

So our school TKTO had a project called Erasmus 4E's project in which we had 2 associate schools; Liceo Artistico di Porta Romana in Florence Italy and Hillsborough's College of Fine Arts in Sheffield UK. In this project one group from 2 of the schools was supposed to be sent to the third one to spend a week designing and actualizing a product.

Let's start with our trip to the lodgings and the school! Here you can see a view from the airplane

Sheffieldin juna-aseman edessä oli tuollanen hieno moderni suihkulähde/vesiputous jutska. Oli hiano.
Sitten siellä oli sellanen hieno motivaatiopuhe yhden koulun seinässä.


In front of the Sheffield train station there was this lovely modern fountain/waterfall thingy. It was neat.
Then there was this awesome motivation speech on the side of one school.

Tässä onkin sitten pari kuvaa meidän yhteistyö koulusta. Se oli hienon näköinen ja sisälle mentäessä tarvitsi kulkuluvat että pääsi porteista sisään.







Here's a couple of pics from our collaborative school. It was cool looking and if you wanted to get inside the gates, you needed a pass.

Ja tässä on meidän ensimmäisen päivän kenttälounas. Muina päivinä käytiinkin sitten ostamassa kouluruoka kahviosta koko muun koulun tapaan.

And here's our first day's lunch serving. From the rest of the trip we bought our own lunches from the cafeteria, like the rest of the school.




Jaaaa sitten tajusin etten ollut ottanut majapaikasta yhtään kuvaa, hupsista! Mutta ei se mitään, muualta niitä kuvia sitten riittääkin xD

Aaaand then I remembered that I totally forgot to take pics from our lodgings, woops! But that's OK, I took lots and lots of pics from pretty much everywhere else xD

Sheffieldissä oli semmoinen Millenium Galleria missä oli näyttely menossa Sheffieldin metalliteollisuudesta ja mitä ylipäätään voi metalleista tehdä. Sieltä löytyi kaikkea kivaa ja hienoa.

   

In Sheffield there was this Millenium Gallery that had an exhibit on Sheffields metal manufacturing and industry, and showed what all you can make from metal. There all kinds of cool and innovative stuff.

Erityisesti mua kiinnosti kaikki käytännön tarkoitukseen liittyvät metalliesineet.


I was particularly interested in every practical items made of metal.

Millenium Galleriasta löytyi myös talvipuutarha, joka oli avoinna aamusta iltaan kävijöille. Se oli kätevä koska sinne pysty menemään hetkeksi suojaan kylmältä vaikka Galleria itse ei ollutkaan enää auki ja siellä oli ilmainen WiFi joten itse pystyin menemään sinne aina tarkistamaan Google Mapsin kanssa minne olin menossa xD









Inside the Millenium Gallery, there was also the Winter Garden, that was open from morning to evening to visitors. It was convenient 'cos you could pop in there for a moment to get cover from the cold even though the Gallery itself wasn't open anymore and it had free WiFi so I myself could go and check from Google Maps that where I was actually going every once in a while xD

Viikon aikana me vierailtiin myös Chatsworthin kartanossa ja puutarhassa Bakewellissä, mitä käytettiin näyttelytilana modernille taiteelle. Kaikki puutarhassa olevat työt olivat ihan myytävänä.

During the week we also visited in Chatsworth House and garden in Bakewell, which was used as a showroom to modern art. Every art-piece in the garden was in sale.

Kuten näkyy tosin, osa talosta oli julkisivuremontissa, mutta upealta lukaalilta näytti kyllä silti.



As you can see, part of the house was under construction but it the house still made an impact with its amazingness.



Seuraavaksi laitan vaan rykelmässä joitakin kuvia joistakin omasta mielestäni hienoimmista taideteoksista mitä siellä näin.


Next I will just put a bunch of pics from the greatest pieces (of my own opinion of course) that I saw there.

Tuo alla oleva kuva metsässä kävelevästä naispatsaasta oli mun mielestä erityisen upea koska sä et ensin nähnyt että siellä ees oli joku. Ja sit kun katsoi uudestaan niin sitten siellä olikin tollanen nainen harppomassa keskellä puita.

This picture underneath from a statue of a woman walking in the woods was particularly tremendous because first you didn't even see there was anyone. But when you looked again there she was, a woman striding through the trees.

Puutarhassa oli myös taideteosten lisäksi labyrintti, jonne pääsi kivipuutarhan läpi. Ja totta kai labyrinttiin oli pakko päästä, joten seuraavaksi liuta kuvia joita otin matkastamme kivipuutarhan läpi.


Besides the art works, the garden had a labyrinth that resided after the Stone Garden. Well we of course had to get to the labyrinth so next there is a loads of pics that I took during our journey through the stone garden.

Keskeltä kiviä löyty epäilyttävä allas jonka pohjalla oli oviaukko, joka johti luolaan.

In the middle of the rocks we found a suspicious pool that had a doorway on the bottom, that led into a cave.

 Toi puu on itseasiassa suihkulähde. Ihan sika siisti.



That tree is actually a fountain. Absolutely awesome.

Sit sielä oli ihan oikea suihkulähde.


Then there was an actual fountain.

 Sitten päästiinkin sinne labyrinttiin.

Then we arrived at the labyrinth.

Siellä me sitten aikamme kierrettiin, kunnes päästiin läpi (yllättävän helposti) ja jos haluttiin oikotietä takas talolle, niin piti mennä tuommoisen reiän läpi. Se oli hauskaa.



We took our time there wandering, 'till we got through (which was surprisingly easy) and if we wanted to take a short cut back to the house, we had to climb through this hole. It was fun.

Seuraavana päivänä menin Sheffieldissä vähän kaupunkikierrokselle koulun jälkeen. Siellä oli kyllä tosi nättiä.



The next day, I went to a little city tour by myself in Sheffield after school. There was some really pretty places.

 Nyt sitten, koska tajusin etten ole puhunut meidän projektista melkein ollenkaan, selitän sen tässä muutaman havainnointi kuvan kanssa.

And now, since I realized I haven't spoken about our project almost at all, I'm going to explain it to you next with a few observational pics. 

Eli tän viikon tarkoitus oli keksiä pyörään kiinnitettävä tuote. 

So this weeks purpose was to come up with an accessory to a bike.






Meidän ryhmä päätti ottaa kohderyhmäkseen jokapäiväiseen käyttötarkoitukseen tarvittavat pyörät ja niiden ajajat, eli ihan normaalit työssä ja koulussa käyvät ihmiset. 

Our group decided to make bikes that are used in every-day purposes and their drivers as our target audience, which means just normal people who work and go to school.

Meidän ryhmämme piti siis keksiä pyörään liitettävä tuote, joka helpottaisi asiakkaiden elämää. Monien pohdintojen ja ajatusleikkien jälkeen ryhmämme päätyi tekemään sadeviitan, minkä sai nopeasti kiinnitettyä pyörään ja ottamaan sen siitä pois tarpeen tullen. Tuossa näette errrrrittäin raa'an luonnoksen.

Our group had to invent a product, that would make our customers lives easier. After many ponderings and discussions our group decided to develop a raincoat, that you could fasten to the bike fast and easy and take it off as you need it. Here you can see an extreeeeemely rough sketch.

Lopulta me päädyttiin tekemään poncho, jonka saa kiinni ohjaustankoon liu'uttamaan vedet pois kun se on päällä, ja jonka voi kiertää tangon ympärille ja laittaa kiinni tarranauhalla kun sitä ei tarvitse. Ja väritys/kuviointi tulee olemaan sellaista, että siinä on paikoittain heijastinmateriaaleja jotta pyöräilijä näkyy myös pimeässä.

In the end we ended up making a poncho that you could attach to the handle bar to slide all the water away from you when it's on you, and that can be rolled around the handle bar and fasten with velcro tape when you don't need it. And the coloring/fabric design will be partly made of reflective materials so that the biker will also be seen in the dark.

Jotta saisitte kuitenkin paremman käsityksen meidän tekemästä tuotteesta ja sen teko prosessista, niin mäpäs voisin suoraan laittaa tähän meidän tekemän esitelmän. Ja ihan vaan selvennöksen vuoks, meidän ryhmän nimi oli BiciPyörä (pyörä italiaksi ja pyörä suomeksi) ja tuotteen nimi Impertakki (ikäänkuin läpäisemätön takki). Esitelmä on englanniksi.

However to give you a better understanding of our product and the making of it, I think I should just straight up put our presentation here for you to see. And just for clarification, our group name was BiciPyörä (bike for italian and bike for finnish) and product name is Impertakki (impenetrable jacket)

Tuommonen siitä sitten loppujen lopuksi tuli! Ihan kiva vaikka itse sanonkin. Tämän Sheffieldissä vietetyn viikon aikana tuli tutustuttua paljon uusiin ihmisiin ja nyt harmittaa etten ottanut kunnon kuvia meidän viimeisestä yhteisestä ateriasta (kuulostaa pahaenteiseltä xD) mutta sain ystäviä, pidin hauskaa, opin uusia asioita ja olen kaikin tavoin itse tyytyväinen tähän reissuun. Kiitos kaikille uusille ja vanhoille ihmisille keitä tapasin ja erityisesti isäntä koulullemme, toivon että tulen näkemään näitä ihmisiä vielä uudestaan :)


That's what we had in the end! I like it quite well even though I do say so myself. During this week spend in Sheffield I got to know a lot of new people and now I really feel bad not taking presentable pictures from our last meal together (sounds ominous xD) but I made friends, I had fun, I learned new things and I am very satisfied to this traveling experience. Thank you to all new and old people that I met and especially to our host school, I do hope that I will see these people again :)
